What is Isthmocele?
Isthmocele is a pathological condition that forms at the site of a scar after a cesarean section. Isthmocele can cause various symptoms, such as abnormal uterine bleeding, lower abdominal pain, infertility, and other complications. Correction of isthmocele is an important step in restoring normal uterine function and improving the quality of life for the woman.
Preparation for the Procedure
Before the procedure, you need to take a complete blood test and undergo an ultrasound of the pelvic area.
How is the Procedure Performed?
- Anesthesia: For your comfort, the procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia.
- Insertion of the Hysteroscope: The hysteroscope is carefully inserted through the vagina into the uterus, allowing for a clear image on the monitor.
- Resection of the Niche: Using special instruments inserted through the hysteroscope, only the distal edge or both the distal and proximal edges are resected with bipolar current and coagulation of fragile vessels at the base, or even the entire niche with a ball electrode. Resection facilitates the outflow of menstrual blood.
- Completion of the Procedure: You will be allowed to rest under medical supervision.
The procedure duration is up to 10 minutes. The hospital stay is up to two hours.
Postoperative Period
After the procedure, mild lower abdominal pain and slight bloody discharge may occur for several days. You will be advised to take oral painkillers. It is important to avoid heavy physical activity for 10 days after the operation.
Advantages of Hysteroscopic Isthmocele Correction
- Minimally invasive: The procedure does not require large incisions, reducing the risk of complications and shortening the recovery period.
- Precision: Hysteroscopy allows for the precise removal of fibroids without damaging surrounding tissues.
- Quick recovery: Most patients can return to normal life within a few days after the procedure.
Hysteroscopic isthmocele correction is a safe and effective method that helps alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.
