What is Endometrial Ablation?
Endometrial ablation is a medical procedure aimed at destroying or removing the inner layer of the uterus (endometrium). It is intended to treat abnormal uterine bleeding that does not respond to other treatments. Endometrial ablation helps to reduce or completely stop uterine bleeding, thereby improving the patient's quality of life.
Preparation for the Procedure
Before the procedure, you need to take a complete blood test and undergo an ultrasound of the pelvic area.
How is the Procedure Performed?
- Anesthesia: For your comfort, the procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia.
- Insertion of the Hysteroscope: The hysteroscope is carefully inserted through the vagina into the uterus, allowing for a clear image on the monitor.
- Removal of the Hyperplastic Endometrium: Using special instruments inserted through the hysteroscope, the basal layer of the endometrium is resected, which leads to the cessation of uterine bleeding.
- Completion of the Procedure: You will be allowed to rest under medical supervision.
The procedure duration is up to 10 minutes. The hospital stay is up to two hours.
Postoperative Period
After the procedure, mild lower abdominal pain and slight bloody discharge may occur for several days. You will be advised to take oral painkillers. It is important to avoid heavy physical activity for 10 days after the operation.
Advantages of Hysteroscopic Isthmocele Correction
- Minimally invasive: The procedure does not require large incisions, reducing the risk of complications and shortening the recovery period.
- Precision: Hysteroscopy allows for precise removal of hyperplastic endometrium.
- Fast recovery: Most patients can return to normal life within a few days after the procedure.
- Hysteroscopic endometrial ablation is a safe and effective method that helps alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.
